Project: X-Ray of Greek Voters
  • About the project

At the center of the “X-ray of Greek Voters” project are key questions aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of political behavior and civic engagement in Greece. This research initiative seeks to thoroughly investigate the ideological and political orientations of Greek society, moving beyond the limited interpretive frameworks of traditional public opinion polls.

The project aims to uncover the fundamental value systems and perceptual patterns that shape citizens’ political thinking, while also analyzing how these have evolved in comparison to previous periods.

Youth X-ray | Values, political stances, and contradictions

In April, Eteron – Institute for Research and Social Change published its “X-ray of Greek Voters” research for 2025. The data collection took place between March 24 and April 4, 2025, on a sample of 2,574 citizens aged 17 and over. The size of the sample allows us, among other things, to examine specific demographic groups in depth and with more reliability. In the present analysis, we shall focus primarily on young people aged 17-24 and 25-34, while also addressing certain significant differences between the two genders.

The aim of this paper is to map the value framework of Greek youth in the present day. To this end, we shall present the stances and positions of young people on all the research questions, grouped into thematic sections (economy, ideological identities, political participation, trust towards institutions, foreign policy, social issues, etc.). Next, we will outline significant differences identified between the youth age groups and the general population, as well as certain differentiations between the two youth age groups. Both differences (i.e. between young people and the general population and between young people of different ages) are of great political significance. Although intergenerational differentiations are often recorded and discussed, the latter – those between the two youth age groups – offer valuable new insights. This comparison allows us to argue that the group with the most distinctive profile at the moment is the 25-34 age group.
