eBook “Youth in the Kaleidoscope: Collective Action, Emotions and Electoral Attitudes in Greece during 2023”

28.05.2024

Completing the research project “Youth – Voice On“, Eteron releases the second e-book for the young generation entitled “Youth in the Kaleidoscope: Collective Action, Emotions and Electoral Attitudes in Greece during 2023”, which is available for free access and edited by Costas Gousis and Loukia Kotronaki.

The head-on collision of two trains on 28 February 2023, the deadliest railway accident ever recorded in Greece, is not something that the human mind can easily accommodate. The loss of so many lives, the majority of whom were under 30 years old, came as a shock that plunged society into mourning and, at the same time, led to several days of nationwide mobilisations, the largest seen in the past decade.

The e-book “Youth in the Kaleidoscope” aims to outline the profile of the young generation by recording, analyzing, and discussing the engagement and activism of young people, as well as their positions on a range of political and ideological issues. Additionally, this volume provides an opportunity for open dialogue regarding the youth vote in Greece’s May 21 and June 25, 2023 parliamentary elections, by examining the new context. It particularly focuses on the correlation between electoral attitudes and the broader political profile of young people in the post-pandemic era.

Trying to build bridges between youth studies, contentious politics, comparative political analysis, and electoral sociology, the e-book begins with an interview with the American sociologist James M. Jasper on the role of emotions in social movements and includes commentary and analysis by: Loukia Kotronaki, Panagiotis Kοustenis, Manina Kakepaki, Costas Gousis, Nikos Serendakis, Ioannis Balampanidis, Lina Zirganou-Kazolea, Maro Pantelidou-Maloutaw, Maria Louka and Kostas Kanellopoulos.

The e-book “Youth in the Kaleidoscope: Collective Action, Emotions and Electoral Attitudes in Greece during 2023” is available in pdf format.
